#RhodeScholar Michelle recaps #UHCTC!

Sunday’s weather forecast called for “breezy” conditions. That was the understatement of the year.

I could hear the wind howling as soon as I woke up, and I knew it was going to make for an interesting morning.

Luckily it wasn’t a cold wind - temps were in the 50s. Not hot, but certainly warm enough. But the wind. Yikes!

#RhodeScholar Mallory is ready!

Yesterday we completed our final really long run of marathon training!  We did 20.5 miles on the East Bay Bike Path and it was a beautiful run.  We kept ourselves occupied by talking about various topics along the way.  One thing we’ve been doing on long runs is talking about a different adventure we’d like to take at each mile.  It’s really fun and we’ve come up with some crazy things.  I felt pretty good afterwards and am looking forward to FINISHING the marathon.  We watched the video of the Amica Marathon over the weekend and cannot wait to see how beautiful the course is.

#RhodeScholar Michelle enjoys an “awesome” weekend!

I love when so many exciting things happen that I don’t even know where to begin.

The short version -

- Went to “Another Mother Runner” house party last week and had a blast

- Ran the Zooma half-marathon on Cape Cod, and shaved THREE minutes off my PR

- Won 1st place in my age group, and came in 6th overall

- Enjoyed a lovely, kid-free weekend on the Cape with a friend

- Met (and had dinner with) several awesome mother runners from theRLAM Facebook page

- Spent time (at last week’s house party, and at this weekend’s race) with two of my running idols

- Got my official Boston 2013 acceptance email

#RhodeScholar Brittany can breath!

For most of my life, my asthma hasn’t really impacted my every day life. I wasn’t even diagnosed until I was 17 and at the time it felt like a validation for not putting in any effort in gym class. I finally had a viable reason for every gym teacher who told me I just wasn’t trying hard enough or the overly competitive boy who would yell if they didn’t feel like I was really trying in kick-ball. Come on. It’s kick-ball. It’s really not that serious, I promise.

#RhodeScholar Michelle recaps Jamestown!

I’ve heard a lot of people say that the races that they’re most relaxed about end up being the best races they’ve ever had, but I had never had that experience - until yesterday’s inaugural Jamestown half-marathon.

#RhodeScholar Mallory recaps a long weekend

What a weekend! This has been a busy and fun-filled weekend for me. First of all, I finished my first week at my new job, so after a very overwhelming week, I was ready for some fun. It’s already official — I LOVE not working the overnight shift on Friday nights anymore.

#RhodeScholar Michelle is ready for Jamestown!

It’s really difficult to find time to blog during the summer when all three kids are with me all day long, and so many of our evenings are filled up with fun summer activities. My alone time these days is pretty much limited to my workouts - thankfully I still have time for those!

#RhodeScholar Mallory contemplates pace

I’ve been working on increasing my miles again as I’ve got races coming up and most importantly, my first marathon in October.  As I’ve been increasing my miles I’ve been thinking more about goal pace and what goes into it.  I’ve had trouble finding motivation on some days and then other days when I am actually running, I am still having trouble getting into it so it got me thinking… am I running too fast?

#RhodeScholar Michelle feels a pain in the foot

After running 14 miles this past Sunday, and then spending all afternoon walking around at the air show, I felt a slight ache in the arch of my right foot. I figured it was just due to a whole lot of time spent on my feet, and didn’t think much of it.

#RhodeScholar Michelle recovers strong

Very happy to report that after last Tuesday’s freakish allergic reaction, I went and ran 3 more times that week without incident (but also not without my epi-pen and phone). The first time I went out, I took it easy and ran nice and slow. The second time, I ran the first mile slow, the middle 2 miles faster, and the final mile slow.
